About Manipal Health: India's Largest Private Hospital Network by Bed Capacity
Manipal Health Enterprises operates one of India's largest multi-speciality hospital networks. As of March 31, 2026, the company had 49 hospitals with 13,037 licensed beds spread across 14 states and Union Territories, making it the country's largest private hospital chain by bed capacity. It also ranked second in terms of the number of hospitals among listed private healthcare operators.
The company has built a strong presence in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa and eastern India, while also becoming the only private hospital operator to lead Bengaluru, Kolkata and Pune in terms of licensed bed capacity. Nearly 47% of its beds are located in metro cities, with the remaining network spread across non-metro markets, providing geographical diversification and wider patient reach.
Manipal Health Financial Performance
The company's financial performance reflects strong business expansion over the past three years. Revenue from operations increased from Rs 6,171.63 crore in FY24 to Rs 8,242.25 crore in FY25, before rising further to Rs 10,335.75 crore in FY26, highlighting healthy growth driven by capacity additions, acquisitions and higher patient volumes.
Operating performance also remained robust. EBITDA improved from Rs 1,776.60 crore in FY24 to Rs 2,247.07 crore in FY25, reaching Rs 2,795.94 crore in FY26. Although EBITDA margins moderated slightly over the three-year period, they remained comfortably above 27%, reflecting operational efficiency despite expansion.
Profit after tax stood at Rs 916.52 crore in FY26, compared with Rs 1,081.67 crore in FY25 and Rs 533.20 crore in FY24. While profits moderated year-on-year, the company continued to generate healthy operating cash flows, with cash generated from operations rising to Rs 2,078.40 crore during FY26.
One area investors should monitor is debt. Total borrowings increased sharply to over Rs 10,553 crore in FY26 following acquisitions and expansion, making debt reduction one of the key objectives of the IPO.
Key Risks Investors Should Not Ignore
Despite its leadership position, the company faces several risks that investors should evaluate carefully.
Nearly 46% of FY26 revenue was generated from Karnataka, making earnings relatively dependent on one geography. Any regulatory changes, pricing controls or operational disruptions in the state could materially affect business performance.
The company also derives a significant share of inpatient revenue from a handful of speciality segments such as cardiac sciences, oncology, neurosciences, gastro sciences, orthopaedics and renal sciences. Any slowdown in these high-value treatments may affect revenue growth.
Like all hospital operators, Manipal Health remains exposed to regulatory changes, medical negligence claims, talent retention challenges and healthcare compliance risks. The company also carries relatively high debt following multiple acquisitions, although part of the IPO proceeds will be used to reduce borrowings.
