Born before the Independence of India, on July 24, 1937, Manoj Kumar was birth as Harikrishan Giri Goswami. Before the partition, his birthplace was in the North-West Frontier Province, British India which is called in current times as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. After the partition, his family migrated to Delhi.

In India, he pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hindu College. Growing up, his love for acting increased after watching performances of Dilip Kumar, Ashok Kumar and Kamini Kaushal. Before entering the film industry, he changed his name to Manoj Kumar, which was inspired by Dilip Kumar's role in Shabnam.

Over the years, Manoj Kumar went beyond the role of just an actor, he expanded his talent to become a film director, screenwriter, lyricist and editor. After his big hit Shaheed which was a patriotic movie, Kumar decided to do more roles related to patriotism.

He was one of the most successful and finest actors in the history of Indian cinema. He was known for acting and making films with Patriotism and he was given the nickname Bharat Kumar. He was honoured with the Padma Shri in 1992 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award; the highest award in the field of cinema in 2015 by the Government of India for his contribution to Indian cinema and arts. On April 4th, Kumar was taken to the Kokilaben Dhirubai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai due to chronic heart-related complications. He died at 87 years of age here!
