Mark Zuckerberg Uploads Selfie With Bruises On His Face. Here's What Happened

Mark Zuckerberg has shared a selfie on Instagram that shows his face swollen and marked by several bruises under the eyes and on the nose. Meta CEO explained that it happened when sparring -- a training common in combat sports -- got out of hand.

"Sparring got a little out of hand. May need to update my avatar," he shared. Zuckerberg has been practising combat sports such as MMA and jiu-jitsu for quite a while now.

Reacting to the photo, an Instagram user wrote, "How does the other guy look Mark?" while another said, "Jeez dude! Must have been a huge hit."

Combat sports enthusiast, Mark Zuckerberg competed in his first jiu-jitsu tournament in May and also won medals. "Competed in my first jiu-jitsu tournament and won some medals for the Guerrilla Jiu-Jitsu team," he wrote, thanking his trainers.

As per a report in Jits Magazine, Meta CEO competed in the white belt master 2 lightweight division in both gi and no gi jiu-jitsu in the tournament. A gi is a thick, white cotton uniform worn in several martial arts.

Last September, he shared a video of him sparring with one of his training partners, Khai Wu, also known as "The Shadow" ahead of his debut on Ultimate Fighting Championship Fight Pass -- an American subscription-based video streaming service on combat sports.

In an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast last year, Zuckerberg said he grew an interest in various sports, including mixed martial arts, during the COVID pandemic.
