In a day marked by fluctuating trends, the Indian stock market witnessed a close with minor cuts, with the Nifty 50 and Sensex slipping 48 and 143 points, respectively. The Nifty Bank and Midcap Index, however, managed to eke out minor gains, finishing the session with increases of 25 and 91 points, respectively.
One of the notable performers was Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), which surged 4% ahead of its earnings announcement. The company emerged as the top index gainer, contributing to the positive sentiment among stocks.

In the healthcare sector, Apollo Hospitals reported earnings that surpassed estimates, leading to a 4% uptick in its stock. Diagnostic companies also saw positive movement, with Metropolis Health rising by 6% and Dr. Lal PathLabs gaining 2%.
Power-related stocks experienced a surge in buying, with Power Grid and Coal India witnessing increases of 1-2%. However, Adani Ports closed with a cut of over 1% despite posting healthy Q2 earnings. The power sector's positive momentum extended to PFC, which reported a beat in Q2, reaching a 52-week high. REC also saw gains in the wake of PFC's positive performance.
Realty stocks rebounded from losses in the last two days, with the sector witnessing gains of 1-3%. Granules closed 3% higher after reporting an in-line set of earnings, while Ramco Cements moved 1% higher on the back of a healthy Q2.
ABB India emerged as a winner, closing with a gain of 1% as its earnings outperformed estimates. On the flip side, Page Industries slipped despite a healthy Q2, and Bosch faced a decline following weak results.
In the midcap segment, MCX experienced significant selling pressure, ending the session as the top midcap loser with a 6% drop. Nalco, SAMIL, and GNFC also slipped on weak earnings, closing 2-3% lower.
The market breadth favored declines, with the advance-decline ratio at 2:3, reflecting the mixed sentiment among investors. As the market continues to navigate through these fluctuations, investors remain watchful of upcoming earnings reports and global economic cues that could influence future trends.
