Markets End The Day Higher, Hindalco Jumps 6 percent

Benchmark indices ended the day higher, with the Nifty closing the day above the 10,800 points mark.

Cues from Asia were positive, while Europe too was trading with good gains of more than 1 per cent. Metals and financials led the rally in trade today with Hindalco jumping as much as 6 per cent in trade. Other notable winners were State Bank of India, Bajaj Finance, Tata Steel and GAIL.

The Nifty ended the day higher by 107 points at 10,751 points, led by good gains in metal stocks. Yes Bank shares saw its shares end the day higher by 2 per cent after reports that State Bank of India would invest in the bank.

Pharma major Cipla too saw its shares gain marginally after the company said it has launched its generic version of antiviral drug remdesivir at Rs 4,000 per vial.

Shares in ICICI Bank were subdued in trade, after the board approved a fund raising plan to the tune of Rs 15,000 crores.

Among the losers from the Nifty were Bharti Infratel, Coal India, ONGC and Tech Mahindra. Shares in Shemaroo were locked at the upper end of the circuit filter for a second day in a row, following a 5 per cent rally seen on Wednesday.

Shares in NMDC too gained ground after reports that the Bailadila iron ore mining projects of the company at Chhattisgarh recorded a five per cent increase in production in June this year.
