Markets Trade Lower; Vodafone Idea fall 8%

Benchmark indices opened the day flat, as Asian markets were quiet. The Sensex was trading with losses of 42 points, while the Nifty fell 14 points in early trade.

Vodafone Idea saw steep losses, with the stock down as much as 9 per cent in trade. yes bank continued to see declines for the third straight trading session losing as much as 1.61 per cent.

Shares in KNR Construction rallied after reports that a Concession Agreement for KNR Palani Infra Private Limited - HAM Project with NHAI. The stock was up 2.24 per cent in trade today.

Among the Nifty stocks HDFC was among the few stocks that gained in trade. Maruti too gained ground after reports that the company had hiked the prices of vehicles from Jan onwards.

Shares in GAIL, which dropped to a 52-week low on Friday, recovered and fell again in trade. Axis Bank traded with slight weakness after reports that Jairam Sridharan resigned as Group Executive & Chief Financial Officer of the bank. Meanwhile, the Indian rupee opened lower by 8 paise at 71.28 per dollar on Monday versus Friday's close 71.20.
