Bengaluru woke up to a much-needed rainfall today, bringing relief from the rising summer heat. However, the joy was short-lived as heavy rains in Bangalore triggered massive waterlogging and traffic chaos across the city, which made commuters frustrated and stranded for hours. Major areas in Bangalore, like Nagavara, Ramamurthy Nagar, BTM Layout, etc., were all waterlogged, and people are facing traffic issues.
Traffic Issues in Bangalore Across Key Areas
Even though the rain lasted for only a few hours, several key roads and underpasses were flooded, bringing traffic to a standstill. The worst-affected areas include Central Jail Road towards Rayasandra, Horamavu towards Ramamurthy Nagar, and Shreenivagilu Inner Ring Road. Cauvery Underpass towards Palace Guttahalli. Vehicles in these areas were moving at a snail's pace, and social media was flooded with images and videos of submerged roads and stranded commuters. Near the Silk Board junction, as well, the waterlogging issue was seen.
Bengaluru Residents Vent Frustration on Social Media
As traffic congestion worsened, Bengaluru residents took to Twitter to share their ordeal. One user tweeted: "Brand #Bengaluru or Flooded Bengaluru? Heavy rains turn roads into lakes, bringing the city to a standstill. Despite tall promises, no real solutions. Just flashy slogans. Is this DK's vision for Brand Bengaluru? Bengaluru Bikers, stay safe."
Another user shared a video of vehicles struggling to navigate the waterlogged streets, raising concerns over the city's drainage system and infrastructure failures.
Waterlogged Routes to Avoid
Authorities have issued warnings for motorists to stay alert and avoid certain flooded underpasses. One of the locations, the Tindlu underpass, is filled with rainwater, and officials are urging residents to take alternative routes. The ACP Traffic Northeast Bangalore also advised commuters via Twitter to avoid waterlogged routes to prevent accidents and vehicle breakdowns.
More Rain Expected in Bengaluru?
With heavy showers expected to continue in the coming hours, experts warn that the situation could worsen. Commuters are advised to check real-time traffic updates, use alternative routes, and avoid unnecessary travel. The IMD has advised residents to exercise caution over the next two days, as isolated regions of Karnataka could experience hailstorms. The weather department has urged people to limit unnecessary outings and follow safety guidelines during this period. The department also warned that a depression has formed off Odisha's coast, which may intensify into a cyclone, potentially influencing weather conditions further in Karnataka. As a result, Bengaluru and other parts of the state can expect cloudy weather, gusty winds, and significant rainfall over the coming days.
