Milad-un-Nabi 2026: Schools, banks and government offices across several parts of India are going to observe a holiday on Wednesday, August 26, for Milad-un-Nabi, also known as Eid-e-Milad or Mawlid.

The occasion celebrating the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad, August 26 is included as a gazetted holiday in the 2026 Central Government holiday calendar. However, the holiday does not mean that every school, bank or private office across India will necessarily be closed.

The holiday is also in the Supreme Court of India's 2026 holiday calendar, which lists Milad-un-Nabi/Id-e-Milad on August 26.
Private-sector companies generally follow their own annual holiday calendars. Therefore, there is no universal rule requiring every private company to close on August 26.
