Milk Price Hike By Rs 4/Litre; OMFED Revises Rates Across Toned, Premium and Gold Variants in Odisha

The Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers' Federation (OMFED) has announced a fresh increase in milk prices across the state, raising retail rates by Rs 4 per litre for its major variants. OMFED's decision is set to impact daily consumers, particularly in urban and semi-urban areas where packaged milk forms a regular part of household consumption.

OMFED has implemented a uniform hike across toned, premium and high-fat milk categories. However, since each variant had a different base price earlier, the overall impact on monthly household expenses will vary depending on consumption patterns and preferred milk types.

As per the revised rates, toned milk now costs Rs 54 per litre, up from Rs 50. Premium milk has been increased from Rs 54 to Rs 58 per litre. Gold Premium milk is now priced at Rs 60 compared to Rs 56 earlier, while Gold Premium Plus has gone up from Rs 60 to Rs 64 per litre. The Rs 4 per litre hike remains consistent across all these categories.

Gold Premium - Rs 60 per litre

Gold Premium Plus - Rs 64 per litre

The increase is expected to put additional pressure on household budgets, as milk is a staple commodity consumed daily. It may also lead to a gradual rise in the prices of milk-based products, as higher input costs often get passed on through the supply chain.

OMFED has not specified the exact reasons behind the latest price revision. However, such hikes are generally attributed to increased procurement prices for farmers, along with rising costs of transportation, storage, processing and distribution.

Details regarding the effective date of the revised prices are yet to be officially announced.
