The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, CM C Joseph Vijay, today announced a milk price hike in the state. As per the announcement, there will be a Rs 3 per litre hike in Aavin milk procurement price, raising it from Rs 38 to Rs 41 per litre.
The announcement was made under Rule 110 in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly and is one of the first major welfare decisions by the TVK-led government for the state's dairy farming community.

Aavin Milk Procurement Price Hike Details
According to CM Vijay, the new procurement price for milk, which is supplied through the primary milk cooperative societies of the state-run Aavin federation, will now be available at Rs 41 per litre, up from the earlier Rs 38.
The Chief Minister said the decision was taken because of the state's ongoing financial constraints. The government is trying to look after the welfare and livelihood of milk producers.
Post the milk price hike, Aavin milk prices are expected to directly benefit more than 3.16 lakh milk producers across Tamil Nadu who are dependent on dairy farming as a primary source of income.
How It May Impact Consumers
The current hike mainly applies to the procurement price, which is paid to farmers rather than the retail price charged to consumers. However, if there is a sustained rise in procurement costs, it could eventually influence retail milk pricing in Tamil Nadu.
Other Major Announcements in the Tamil Nadu Assembly
Alongside the Aavin milk procurement price hike, the Tamil Nadu Assembly session saw several other key welfare announcements. The annual treatment coverage under the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme was raised from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 25 lakh, expanding financial protection for patients undergoing costly medical treatment.
