The Defence Ministry and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) have signed an agreement aimed at assisting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and emerging companies in the defence sector. This agreement seeks to help these businesses expand their operations, explore new markets, and fund research and development activities.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aims to provide MSMEs in the defence sector with access to capital markets. The Defence Ministry stated that the MoU will enable these enterprises to raise productive capital efficiently and transparently through the NSE platform, NSE Emerge. This platform offers new options for raising equity capital from a diverse set of investors.
Capital Market Access for MSMEs
The MoU was signed by the additional secretary of the Department of Defence Production (DDP) and the managing director of NSE. Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane was also present at the signing ceremony. The agreement will be effective for five years, during which DDP and NSE will conduct awareness drives through seminars, MSME camps, knowledge sessions, roadshows, and workshops.
These initiatives aim to guide corporate firms engaged with the Ministry of Defence on fundraising through the NSE Emerge platform. The NSE will also assist MSMEs in connecting with intermediaries such as merchant bankers, registrars, transfer agents, and depositories. They will provide guidance on capital markets, capital raising mechanisms, regulatory compliance, and requirements.
Support for Business Growth
The Defence Ministry highlighted that this MoU would help MSMEs and emerging companies in the defence sector scale up their business operations. It will also enable them to explore new markets and fund their research and development activities. The platform offers viable options for raising equity capital from a diversified set of investors.
The MoU is designed to facilitate capital market access for MSMEs in the defence sector. It aims to help these enterprises raise productive capital efficiently and transparently through the NSE platform, NSE Emerge. This initiative is expected to provide new opportunities for these businesses to grow and innovate.
The agreement between the Defence Ministry and NSE is a significant step towards supporting MSMEs in the defence sector. By providing access to capital markets, it aims to help these businesses expand their operations, explore new markets, and fund their research and development activities effectively.
This collaboration between DDP and NSE is expected to create a conducive environment for MSMEs in the defence sector to thrive. The extensive awareness drive planned over the next five years will play a crucial role in guiding these enterprises on fundraising through the NSE Emerge platform.
In summary, this MoU represents a strategic effort to support MSMEs in the defence sector by providing them with access to capital markets. The initiatives planned under this agreement aim to help these businesses grow, innovate, and explore new opportunities in a transparent and efficient manner.
