Monsoon 2026 Hits Kerala! IMD Issues Alert For Telangana, Tamil Nadu | Heavy Rain in Delhi Amid Yellow Alert
Monsoon 2026: The southwest monsoon officially entered Kerala on Thursday, June 4, after three days of delay from the expected date. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed monsoon arrival in Kerala and has issued a red alert for some state districts. Meanwhile, Delhi-NCR saw heavy rainfall on Thursday evening, and the weather forecast agency has predicted heavy rainfall in the capital the next day as well.

Monsoon 2026 Arrival in Kerala
The southwest monsoon officially entered Kerala on Thursday three days after its expected arrival date. The monsoon generally reached Kerala on June 1. The IMD had predicted heavy rainfall in the southwest monsoon but the arrival delayed by nearly a week.
The monsoon has advanced into the remaining parts of the southwest and southeast Arabian Sea and the parts of the westcentral and eastcentral Arabian Sea. The entire Lakshdweetp islands, Kerala and Mahe, parts of the Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, southeast Bay of Bengal and other parts of southwest, westcentral, eastcentral and northeast Bay of Bengal.
The IMD added: "Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, entire Goa, some parts of Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, some more parts of Karnataka, remaining parts of Tamil Nadu, Southwest Bay of Bengal, some more parts of Westcentral, Eastcentral and Northeast Bay of Bengal, some parts of Northeastern states during next 2-3 days," the IMD said.
El Nino Outlook
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has warned that El Niño conditions are forming and could strongly affect global temperature and rainfall in the coming months. A new WMO El Niño/La Niña Update pointed to an 80% chance of an El Niño event during June-August 2026 and said the likelihood of these conditions persisting until at least November is near or above 90%.
Delhi Sees Heavy Rainfall Amid IMD Yellow Alert
Several areas in Delhi-NCR saw massive rainfall with thunderstorm Thursday evening as heavy rainfall lashed parts of Delhi-NCR. The IMD had issued a yellow alert in the NCR region for June 4 and June 5.
Delhi's maximum temperature is expected to settle around 38 degree Celsius. Station wise data of Delhi weather shows a minimum temperature of 27.6 degree Celsius at Palam, 0.4 degrees above normal, 27.5 degrees Celsius at Ridge, 1.4 degrees above normal and 28.4 degree Celsius at Ayanagar.
IMD Issues Alert For Tamil Nadu, Telangana
The weather forecast agency has also issued alert for heavy rainfall in Telangana and Tamil Nadu districts. As per the IMD bulletin, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places in Rangareddy, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar and Nagarkurnool districts in Telangana.
