The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather alert forecasting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across several parts of the country over the next week. Rainfall patterns will vary significantly by region, with the Northeast and South seeing the heaviest showers, while central regions are expected to remain relatively dry.

Zone-wise Weather Forecast Across India: Check the Weather in Your State
South India: Heavy Rains and Strong Winds Expected
Heavy rainfall is expected to continue across southern states over the next six to seven days. Tamil Nadu is likely to receive isolated heavy to very heavy rain throughout the week, while Kerala and Mahe may see similar showers between August 2 and 6.
Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and South Interior Karnataka could experience heavy rain from August 5 to 7. Strong surface winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour are also expected in many parts of South India over the next five days. Moderate rainfall is likely in Telangana, Lakshadweep, and coastal areas during the entire week.
Northeast and East India: Heavy Rain to Persist
Heavy to very heavy rain is expected to continue across the northeastern states and adjoining eastern India for the next seven days.
Arunachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya, are in ret alert and may receive extremely heavy rain on August 2 and 3, noted IMD in its weekly weather forecast. These two states are in orange alert from August 4 to August 8. Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are in orange alert as Isolated heavy rainfall is being predicted during August 2 to August 8.
East & Central India: Strong Showers in Specific Areas
Extremely heavy rain is likely in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on August 2 and 3, and in Bihar on August 3. Other states like Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and parts of Madhya Pradesh will receive isolated heavy rainfall between August 2 and 5.
Northwest India: Isolated Heavy Rain Ahead
Several states in northwest India are expected to receive rainfall in the coming week. Rain is likely in Jammu and Kashmir from August 4 to 6, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana from August 2 to 5, and Uttarakhand from August 2 to 8.
Very heavy rain is expected in East Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh on August 4, and in Uttarakhand on August 3 and 4. Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh will also see rainfall on different days during the week.
West India: Light to Moderate Rainfall Likely
Western regions, including parts of Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Rajasthan, will see light to moderate rainfall over the next six to seven days.
Fishermen Alert: Dangerous Sea Conditions from Aug 1-6
The India Meteorological Department has strongly advised fishermen not to go out to sea in certain areas of the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal because of rough and dangerous conditions. In the Arabian Sea, the warning covers areas along and off the coasts of Gujarat, Kerala, and Karnataka, as well as the southeast and southwest parts of the sea.
Travelers and residents in the affected areas are advised to stay updated with local weather bulletins and follow safety precautions, especially in landslide- and flood-prone zones.
