Union Minister Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar has raised concerns about call drops and network coverage during a meeting with telecom operators. He urged stakeholders to enhance service quality and ensure smooth mobile number portability for better public experience.
Union Minister Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar has expressed dissatisfaction with telecom operators and officials over public complaints, especially those concerning call drops, network coverage, and mobile number portability. This was revealed by official sources familiar with the situation on Wednesday. On Tuesday, the minister convened a meeting with telecom service providers, Department of Telecommunications (DoT), and DBN Digital Bharat Nidhi officials to discuss these public concerns.

The minister emphasised the importance of ensuring smooth mobile number portability and reliable network quality. He urged all parties involved to collaborate closely to provide seamless connectivity and improve service experiences for the public. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) monitors service quality. According to TRAI's latest report on wireless service quality for August, MTNL and Vodafone Idea networks faced issues in some areas, while BSNL and Bharti Airtel did not meet customer care response benchmarks in certain circles.
Telecom Service Quality Concerns
During the meeting, the Minister of State for Communications noted that many grievances are directed to the telecom minister and DoT, but a significant number are directly related to telecom service providers (TSPs). He highlighted that citizens often seek ministry intervention for redressal, underscoring the need for stronger institutional mechanisms to address consumer concerns effectively.
The minister reiterated the government's commitment to strengthening telecom infrastructure. He instructed officials and telecom operators to ensure grievance redressal systems are responsive, transparent, and consumer-friendly. This approach aims to enhance public trust and satisfaction with telecom services.
Minister Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar's meeting with telecom stakeholders reflects the government's proactive stance on addressing public grievances in the telecom sector. By focusing on improving network quality and ensuring efficient mobile number portability, the government aims to enhance overall service delivery for consumers across India.
