Mukesh Ambani's JioHotstar Climbs to Global Top 3 with 20+ Crore Users; All Thanks to IPL 2025

Mukesh Ambani's JioHotstar has made history by crossing 200 million monthly active users, which makes it the third-largest streaming platform in the world, just behind Amazon Prime Video and Netflix, which hold the second and the first spots, respectively. This is a massive achievement for Reliance and a proud moment for India's digital entertainment space.

JioHotstar Gets a Massive Boost from IPL 2025

One of the biggest reasons behind this explosive growth is the IPL 2025 live streaming. Millions of cricket fans across the country tuned in to watch matches for free on JioHotstar, which helped push the app's popularity through the roof. Since IPL 2025 is widely watched across India, streaming IPL matches has been a game-changer for Jio's digital business, which attracted both regular and first-time users in huge numbers. JioHotstar also streamed other ICC tournaments like the Asia Cup, which also garnered a lot of subscribers.

According to reports, JioHotstar crossed this 200 million subscriber milestone in just 6 weeks, i.e., two months of IPL 2025, breaking several global streaming records.
"That makes us one of the biggest streaming services anywhere in the world," said Uday Shankar, vice chairman of JioStar. He was quoted by Bloomberg.

Bigger Than Disney+ and Prime Video

JioHotstar has now gone ahead of global streaming giants like Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video after creating this new record. This is a major turning point in the OTT world, showing how an Indian streaming app can beat some of the biggest international platforms.

Jio's fine strategy of offering premium content like IPL, web series, and movies for free or at low prices has helped it win big in the competitive OTT space.

The merger of JioCinema with Disney+ Hotstar in February this year brought together a lot of good content, live sports, and regional programming all under one roof.

Thanks to this strategy, Mukesh Ambani's JioHotstar now offers a wide variety of shows, movies, and sports at a low rate, and it's completely changing the online entertainment space.

Another big reason for JioHotstar's record-breaking success is its partnership with major telecom companies like Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea. These partnerships allowed users to get special subscription offers in their recharge plans. Thanks to these telecom tie-ups, even people who were not regular OTT users started watching shows, cricket, and movies online. It made digital streaming more affordable and more accessible, giving JioHotstar a huge reach across India.
Crossing 200 million users means that JioHotstar is now a global player. It proves that India can create apps and services that compete with the best in the world - in fact, even beat them. Experts say that if Jio continues on this path, the platform might even cross 250 million users in the coming months, especially with more sports events, movie releases, and exclusive content on the way.
