The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project is progressing satisfactorily, according to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The minister reviewed the work on the project in Ahmedabad on Thursday and expressed his satisfaction with the progress made so far.

No Deadline for Project Completion
When asked by reporters about a deadline for the project's completion, Vaishnaw declined to provide one. He explained that the project is a complex one and that work is progressing section by section in a linear manner. He added that he is impressed with the progress of the project and that he is confident that it will be completed on time.
Progress Highlights
Vaishnaw provided some details about the progress of the project. He said that out of the total 508-km-long project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, viaduct has been raised on a length of 272 km. Bridges have also been built over five of the eight rivers on the route.
Surat-Billimora Section on Track
The minister reiterated that the deadline to complete the 50-km-long section between Surat and Billimora is 2026 and that the work is progressing according to the schedule.
Economic Benefits
Vaishnaw emphasized the economic benefits of the bullet train corridor. He said that it will integrate big economic centers such as Mumbai, Thane, Vapi, Surat, Vadodara, Anand, and Ahmedabad and that it will be good for the country's economic growth.
Sea Tunnel Work Begins
Vaishnaw also mentioned that work has begun on the sea tunnel that will allow the bullet train to reach Mumbai from Thane. The bullet train will pass through this tunnel to enter Mumbai.
Project Background
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project was announced in 2017. It is the country's first high-speed train corridor and will see bullet trains running at a speed of 320 kmph. The project was initially scheduled to be completed by 2022, but the deadline was subsequently extended.
