Mumbai Airport Shutdown Alert: Operations Suspended for 6 Hours On May 7: Check Timing & Passenger Advisory
Mumbai Airport Shutdown: Flight operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport will be suspended for 6 hours on Thursday, May 7 as both runways at the airport undergo scheduled pre-monsoon maintenance work.
The Mumbai Airport shutdown is temporary and is expected to impact several domestic and international flights, with airlines already issuing travel advisories and revised schedules.

Mumbai Airport Shutdown Timings on May 7
According to airport authorities, the closure will begin at 11:00 AM and continue till 5:00 PM IST. During this six hour period, both runways 09/27 and 14/32 will remain completely shut for operations.
The airport authorities stated that flight operations will resume after completion of all maintenance and inspection activities.
Why Is Mumbai Airport Shutting Down?
The runway closure is part of CSMIA's annual pre-monsoon maintenance plan to ensure operational safety during Mumbai's heavy monsoon season.
Airport maintenance teams will conduct detailed technical inspections across the airport's 1,033-acre airside infrastructure, focusing on runway surfaces, wear and tear, rubber deposits, drainage systems, and even the waterlogging prevention measures.
Officials said the resurfacing and inspection work is very important because Mumbai rainfall is devastating during the monsoon, which can affect aircraft braking performance and runway safety if preventive maintenance is not carried out on time.
According to airport authorities, the maintenance work is non-negotiable and necessary for smooth and safe flight operations during the rainy season.
Airlines Likely to Be Affected by Mumbai Airport Closure
The six-hour Mumbai Airport shutdown is expected to affect operations of multiple domestic and international airlines including Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet, Emirates, British Airways, Qatar Airways, Lufthansa & Singapore Airlines
Several flights may face delays, cancellations, or rescheduling due to the temporary suspension of runway operations.
Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) said it has been coordinating with airlines for the past six months to reduce disruption and allow carriers enough time to revise schedules in advance.
Flight Diversions Expected During Mumbai Airport Shutdown
Airlines may divert affected flights to nearby airports and alternate hubs during the shutdown period.
Possible diversion airports include, Pune Airport, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport and Manohar International Airport.
Some long-haul and international flights may also be rerouted through major other airports such as Delhi, Bengaluru, or Chennai.
Passenger Advisory for Mumbai Airport Travellers
Passengers travelling on May 7 have been advised to check their flight status before leaving for the airport. Mumbai Airport officials have warned that even flights scheduled before 11 AM or after 5 PM could experience delays because of operational backlog once services resume.
Travellers whose flights are impacted by cancellations or rescheduling should contact their respective airlines regarding rebooking, refunds, or alternate travel arrangements.
