A viral social media video allegedly showing the First AC coach of the upcoming Vande Bharat Sleeper train has reignited excitement around the proposed Mumbai-Bengaluru overnight service. The proposed alignment is expected to pass through key cities including Pune, Solapur, Kalaburagi and Hubballi before reaching Bengaluru. This route already serves as one of the busiest rail corridors in western and southern India, catering to business travellers, IT professionals, students and tourists.

Railway planners believe the route offers strong passenger demand while also supporting faster operations due to favourable track conditions compared to some alternative alignments.

Bengaluru-Mumbai Vande Bharat: Travel Mumbai To Bengaluru in Train in Around 15-17 Hours?

One of the biggest attractions of the proposed service is the expected reduction in travel time.

Currently, several conventional express trains between Mumbai and Bengaluru take approximately 22 hours to complete the journey. Long-distance bus services generally require around 16 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions.

Initial operational estimates suggest the Vande Bharat Sleeper could complete the journey in about 17 hours. Some reports indicate that travel time may even be reduced to nearly 15 hours depending on the final schedule, halts and operating speed.

If achieved, the service would significantly narrow the gap between rail and road travel while offering considerably greater comfort and onboard amenities.

Although no official timetable has been released, railway planning discussions have indicated a potential overnight schedule.

A working timetable reportedly under consideration suggests a departure from Mumbai around 6 PM, arrival in Pune around 9 PM, passage through Solapur near midnight, an early morning halt at Hubballi and arrival in Bengaluru at approximately 8 AM.

Railway officials, however, have clarified that these timings remain tentative and could change before final approval.
