Mumbai-Bengaluru Vande Bharat Sleeper: Route Via Pune, Kalaburagi, Hubballi, Features, Travel Hours & Timings

Travelling between Mumbai and Bengaluru could soon become faster and significantly more comfortable as Indian Railways prepares to introduce the Vande Bharat Sleeper on one of the country's busiest long-distance corridors.

Mumbai-Bengaluru Vande Bharat Sleeper: 15-Hour Journey, 180 kmph Speed, Route, Features and More Updates

Although the Railways has not officially announced the launch date or operational schedule, the proposed service has generated considerable interest among frequent travellers, especially business professionals, IT employees, students and tourists who regularly commute between Maharashtra and Karnataka.

The premium sleeper train is expected to bridge the gap between conventional express trains and air travel by combining higher speeds with modern onboard facilities designed specifically for overnight journeys.

Mumbai-Bengaluru Vande Bharat Sleeper

The Mumbai-Bengaluru corridor witnesses heavy passenger traffic throughout the year. While flights remain the quickest option, they are not always economical. Existing express trains offer affordable travel but usually require close to a full day to complete the journey.

The upcoming Vande Bharat Sleeper aims to change that equation by offering a faster rail alternative without compromising on passenger comfort. If operational plans remain on track, the service could emerge as one of the most sought-after overnight trains in the country.

Expected Route Between Mumbai and Bengaluru

Indian Railways has not yet released the official route map. However, planning documents indicate that the train is likely to operate between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai and KSR Bengaluru.

The proposed alignment is expected to include important railway hubs such as Pune, Solapur, Kalaburagi and Hubballi before reaching Bengaluru.

These cities are not only major commercial centres but also witness substantial passenger movement every day. Choosing this corridor could help improve connectivity while catering to a wide range of travellers, from daily business commuters to families and holidaymakers.

Mumbai-Bengaluru Vande Bharat Sleeper: Journey Time May Drop from 22 Hours to Around 15-17 Hours

Reducing travel time is expected to be one of the biggest advantages of the new sleeper service.

Most trains currently operating between Mumbai and Bengaluru take around 22 hours to complete the trip. Road travel by luxury buses generally takes about 16 hours, depending on traffic and weather conditions.

The Vande Bharat Sleeper is expected to cut rail travel time to nearly 17 hours, with some operational assessments indicating that the journey could eventually be completed in approximately 15 hours, depending on the final schedule and the number of stops.

A shorter journey, combined with overnight travel, would allow passengers to leave one city in the evening and reach the other the following morning, making better use of travel time.

Unlike the existing Vande Bharat chair car trains that cater to daytime travel, the sleeper version has been developed with long-distance passengers in mind.

Coach Configuration of Vande Bharat Sleeper: 11 AC 3-Tier, 4 AC 2-Tier and 1 First AC

The train will have 16 coaches, including 11 AC Three-Tier coaches, four AC Two-Tier coaches and one First AC coach, accommodating a total of 823 passengers.

It has been engineered to operate at speeds of up to 180 kmph, making it among the fastest sleeper trains designed by Indian Railways.

The Vande Bharat Sleeper has been equipped with several new features intended to make overnight journeys safer and more comfortable.

Passengers can expect ergonomically designed berths with improved cushioning for better sleep during long journeys. Fully air-conditioned coaches, premium First AC cabins and upgraded interiors are expected to provide a more modern travel experience than conventional sleeper trains.

The train will also feature automatic passenger doors connected through sealed vestibules, helping reduce external noise while improving safety inside the coaches.

Bengaluru-Mumbai Vande Bharat Timings (Expected)

While no official timetable has been published, discussions within railway planning suggest that the train may operate as an overnight service.

A tentative operating plan under consideration reportedly includes an evening departure from Mumbai, late-night arrival in Pune, a midnight passage through Solapur, an early morning stop at Hubballi and arrival in Bengaluru around 8 AM.

Railway authorities, however, have clarified that these timings are still being evaluated and will only be finalised before commercial operations begin.

Bengaluru-Mumbai Vande Bharat Launch Date, Ticket Prices

Despite growing excitement surrounding the project, several important details are yet to be announced.

Indian Railways has not confirmed the launch date, ticket fares, stoppage pattern, operating days or booking schedule for the Bengaluru-Mumbai Vande Bharat Sleeper.
