Mumbai Monsoon: Red Alert On Mumbai, Palghar; Orange Alert On Thane, Raigad; IMD Warns Of Extreme Heavy Rain

The city of Mumbai wakes up to heavy downpour, gusty winds, foggy dark clouds and waterlogging on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. After nearly a one-month-long delay, the monsoon has finally arrived in Maharashtra with intense spells so much so that the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert on the Mahanagari city and Palghar. Some of the other regions of Mumbai have received Orange alert. IMD warns of heavy to extreme rains.

Mumbai Rains: Red Alert

IMD has issued a red alert for Mumbai, its suburbs and the Palghar district on June 24, 2026.

As per IMD data, many regions of Mumbai witnessed extreme heavy to very heavy rains from 0830 Hours of June 23, 2024, to 0530 Hours of June 24, 2026.

Data revealed that Ram Mandir station recorded the most rains of 224 mm, which was extreme heavy, followed by Colaba and Santacruz which recorded 218.5 mm and 210.6 mm.

Also, very heavy rains were seen in Sion at 182.5 mm, Vikhroli at 181.7 mm, Vidyavihar at 180.7 mm, Tata Power Chembur at 180 mm, Byculla at 164 mm, Bandra at 161.5 mm and Juhu Airport at 150.5 mm.

IMD indicators categorized that 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm are called 'Heavy Rain'; while 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm are categorized as 'Very Heavy Rain' and 204.5 mm and above are called 'Extremely Heavy Rain'.

Another expert said that Mumbai's Malvani Fire Station and F/South Ward recorded 334 mm and 324 mm respectively. They said, Mumbai witnessed 52% of June average rains in just 12 hours.

IMD Advisory:

According to IMD, residents in the affected regions are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions (do not take shelter under trees or weak structures etc., check road/traffic conditions, avoid unnecessary travels, and follow any other advisories issued by concerned agencies).

Light to Moderate rain/thundershowers very likely to occur at most places in districts of North Konkan , Moderate to heavy rain at most places in districts of South Konkan. Moderate to heavy rain/ thundershowers at few places in districts of north Madhya Maharashtra . Light to Moderate rain/thundershowers very likely to occur at few places in districts of south Madhya Maharashtra. Light to Moderate rain/thundershowers very likely to occur at a many places in districts of Marathwada.

Orange & Yellow Alerts Today:

Apart from Mumbai and Palghar, IMD has issued Orange alerts in regions like Thane and yellow alerts on Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg.

Mumbai Local Trains Suspended:

Due to heavy rains, Trans-Harbour Line local train services are suspended. In the early morning, it was reported that soil beneath Turbhe and Kopar Khairane stations tracks were eroded, which impacted both up and down local lines.

Meanwhile, commuters of Central Railways are advised to use alternate options due to stretch off-limits and repair and restoration work.

Mumbai Waterlogging:

Many busy and financial hubs of Mumbai faced waterlogging, impacting day-to-day lives. Waterlogging was reported at Dadar railway tracks, Kings Circle, Andheri Subway, Hindmata, Dadar and Malad Subway, Gandhi Market, and Sion among others.

Mumbai Rains Forecast:

IMD has predicted intense to very intense rainfall at isolated locations in Mumbai and surrounding regions on Wednesday. Gusty winds of 40-60 kmph along with thunderstorms is forecasted.

For 48 hours, Mumbai is expected to receive generally cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rain with the possibility of lightning and thunder in the city and suburbs. Maximum & Minimum temperatures are likely to be around 29 deg. C. and 25 deg. C.
