Mumbai police are currently on high alert after the police received a chilling terror threat message on the official WhatsApp number of the Mumbai Traffic Police. According to the news agency ANI, the message, allegedly from a group calling itself Lashkar-e-Jihadi, claimed that 34 vehicles carrying human bombs and nearly 400 kg of RDX explosives have been planted across the city. The message further said that 14 Pakistani terrorists have already entered Mumbai and threatened multiple blasts that could "shake the entire city" and potentially kill up to "one crore people".

Mumbai Police Tightens Security Ahead of Ganesh Visarjan
After receiving the message, the Mumbai Police have tightened security measures across the city, especially for the ongoing Ganesh Visarjan 2025 celebrations.
At a press conference, senior police officials confirmed the massive deployment: 10 additional commissioners, around 40 DCP-rank officers, 3,000 inspectors, 18,000 constables, 14 SRPF units, 4 CAPF teams, and 3 riot control squads have been stationed across Mumbai.
To ensure round-the-clock surveillance, over 10,000 CCTV cameras have been installed along all immersion routes. In addition, patrolling mobile units and specialised Nirbhaya squads will be active to provide women's safety. Policemen in plain clothes have also been deployed to monitor crowds.
The police control room is on high alert, with officers on duty 24/7. Citizens have been urged to dial 100 to immediately report any suspicious activity, and the police assured that swift action will be taken.
Special security checks have been intensified at key junctions, religious processions, railway stations, and crowded areas. Anti-terror squads, cyber teams, and intelligence agencies are actively tracing the origin of the threatening message.
Officials are not ruling out the possibility that the current threat could also be a hoax, but they are treating it with the highest level of seriousness due to the scale of the claims.
The Mumbai Police, Maharashtra ATS, and other intelligence units are on round-the-clock surveillance to ensure public safety.
Public Advisory for Mumbaikars
Authorities have also asked citizens not to panic and reassured them that the situation is under continuous monitoring. The Mumbai police have issued a public advisory urging residents to:
- Stay alert and report any suspicious objects or persons.
- Avoid spreading unverified news or rumours on social media and WhatsApp groups.
- Cooperate with security checks during the Ganesh festival processions.
- Call the control room by dialling 100, and police will be available.
- Immediately report any suspicious activity or unattended vehicles.
