Mumbai-Pune Train Services Hit by Lonavala Landslides: Cancelled, Diverted, Short-Terminated Trains' Full List

Heavy monsoon rain triggered major disruption on the Mumbai-Pune rail corridor early Monday after multiple landslides were reported in the Bhor Ghat section, forcing the Central Railway to cancel, divert, short-terminate and reschedule several trains. The disruption affected one of Maharashtra's busiest rail routes, impacting passengers travelling between Mumbai, Pune and several other cities.

According to Central Railway Chief Public Relations Officer (PRO) Swapnil Nila, one landslide occurred on the Up Main Line between Thakurwadi and Monkey Hill Loop Cabin due to incessant rainfall in the South East Ghat section between Karjat and Lonavala. Another landslide was reported on the Middle Line between Khandala and Monkey Hill at around 3.05 am, further affecting railway operations in the ghat section.

The landslides severely affected train operations on the busy Mumbai-Pune corridor, resulting in the cancellation of several important passenger services.

Among the cancelled trains were the CSMT-Pune Indrayani Express, Pune-CSMT Indrayani Express, CSMT-Pune Intercity Express, Pune-CSMT Intercity Express, Solapur-Pune Intercity Express, Pune-Solapur Intercity Express, CSMT-Pune Deccan Express, Pune-CSMT Deccan Express, CSMT-Pune Deccan Queen, Pune-CSMT Deccan Queen, CSMT-Pune Pragati Express, Pune-CSMT Pragati Express, CSMT-Pune Sinhagad Express, Pune-CSMT Sinhagad Express, CSMT-Dhule Express and Dhule-CSMT Express.

Several Long-Distance Trains Diverted

Apart from cancellations, Central Railway diverted multiple long-distance services to avoid the affected ghat section.

The Ahmedabad-Kolhapur Express and Ahmedabad-Pune Duronto Express were diverted via Kalyan, Igatpuri, Manmad and the Daund Chord Line before reaching Pune. The Indore-Daund Express also operated through Kalyan, Igatpuri and Manmad.

Similarly, the Bidar-CSMT Express and Hazur Sahib Nanded-Panvel Express were diverted via Daund, Manmad, Igatpuri and Kalyan. The Charlapalli-Indore Humsafar Express was rerouted through Daund, Manmad, Jalgaon, Paldhi and Surat.

Other trains, including the LTT-SMVT Bengaluru Express, Daund-Gwalior Superfast Express and Chennai Egmore-CSMT Mail, also operated on alternate routes to minimise disruption.

Mumbai-Pune Rail Disruption: Check Short-Terminated Trains And the Affected Services

Railway authorities also short-terminated a number of trains owing to the unsafe conditions in the affected section.

The Santragachi-Pune Humsafar Express terminated at Panvel, while the Solapur-CSMT Siddheshwar Express concluded its journey at Pune. The Hyderabad-CSMT Hussain Sagar Express and Visakhapatnam-LTT Express were terminated at Lonavala.

Meanwhile, the Hosapete-CSMT Express ended at Talegaon, while the Sainagar Shirdi-Dadar Express, Hubballi-Dadar Express and Kolhapur-CSMT Mahalaxmi Express terminated at Pune. The Hazrat Nizamuddin-Pune Special and Dadar-Satara Express were short-terminated at Karjat.

The impact of the heavy rainfall extended beyond railway services.

Traffic on the Pune-Mumbai carriageway near the Khopoli-Kusgaon section was diverted after a landslide occurred close to the exit of the Missing Link Tunnel 2. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) implemented the diversion from around 4 am as a precautionary measure.
