Mumbai Rains Cross 300mm; Red Alert On July 5, Extreme Heavy Rains Ahead; Indigo, Akasa Air, SpiceJet Advisory
Mumbai rains to continue to be extreme and very heavy on July 5, and citizens are warned to remain vigilant and cautious. The IMD has issued a red alert for Mumbai till July 6th, warning of severe weather conditions. In the past 24 hours, several areas of Mumbai witnessed between 250 to 300 mm of rainfall, impacting roads, railway services and airports. Airlines like Indigo, Akasa Air and SpiceJet have issued travel advisories.

According to Brihanmumbai Muncipal Corporation (BMC), in the Brihanmumbai region, various areas recorded approximately 250 to 300 millimeters of rainfall in the past 24 hours. This amount is 74% of the July monthly average and 25% of the annual seasonal total.
"During this period, despite high tides in the sea and continuous heavy rain, life in Mumbai remained normal," BMC revealed.
However, BMC also mentioned that there were incidents of waterlogging in about 10 low-lying areas, as well as 18 cases of trees falling. However, fortunately, there were no casualties of any kind.
Data revealed by BMC showed that annually, Mumbai receives about 2,318 millimeters of rainfall. In July, the city generally records around 800 millimeters of rain.
But because of the continuous heavy downpour over the past four days, Mumbai has recorded about 588 millimeters of rainfall. Compared to the July average, this is about 74%.
In the last 24 hours alone, Mumbai witnessed 250 to 300 millimeters of rain, which is 25% of the annual seasonal rainfall and 40% of the July total rainfall.
On July 4th, the highest rain was seen in the Mumbai suburbs, in the Vikhroli region, to the tune of 316 mm of rains. Also, at around 2:50 pm on Saturday, Mumbai experienced a tide of 4.26 meters in height.
Also, over the last 24 hours, BMC's team received 103 complaints in Mumbai related to trees and branches. Of these, 18 complaints were about fallen trees. A total of 17 incidents of houses and walls collapsing were also recorded. There were no casualties in these incidents. Complaints of waterlogging were received through various channels from more than 10 locations.
However, due to waterlogging, train services were impacted by either being delayed or cancelled. Meanwhile, three Air India and two Indigo flights bound for Mumbai were reported to have diverted to nearby airports. Airlines have issued travel advisories.

"Bad weather over Mumbai has impacted flight schedules. We are closely monitoring the weather and doing our best to get you where you need to be, safely and smoothly," said Indigo.
The largest airline of India has urged passengers to stay updated on their flight status via Indigo website or app.

Meanwhile, Akasa Air warned about delay in flight services that are enroute to Mumbai, Delhi and Goa.
It said, "Due to heavy rainfall in Mumbai, Delhi and Goa some flights across our network may be delayed."
Adding further, Akasa Air said, "We realize that this may inconvenience your travel plans and seek your patience and understanding. While this situation is completely beyond our control, please rest assured that our teams are always ready to assist you."
Mumbai Rains: SpiceJet Travel Advisory
"Due to bad weather (heavy rain) in Mumbai (BOM), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights might get affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status," said SpiceJet.
Passengers can check their flight status through SpiceJet's main website and mobile application or through third-party apps from where the booking was done.

IMD has issued a red alert for Mumbai and Raigad for July 5th, with expectations of moderate to intense spells of rain at isolated places.
For Mumbai, for 48 hours, continuous spells of rain in the city and suburbs are expected. Very Heavy rainfall in a few places and extremely heavy rainfall in isolated places in the city and suburbs. Occasional gusty winds reaching 55-65 Kmph very likely. Maximum & Minimum temperatures are likely to be around 26 deg. C. and 22 deg. C.
Also, on July 6th, the high tides could reach a height of 4.19 meters in the sea.
In this backdrop, BMC urged citizens to remain vigilant and only step out of their homes if absolutely necessary. Furthermore, they should strictly follow the instructions issued from time to time by the administration.
