Mumbai Rains: Orange Alert On Mumbai, Palghar, Raigad, Thane; IMD Warns Heavy Rains! Are Schools Closed Today?
Heavy to very heavy rains are expected to continue on July 3 for Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Palghar among others. IMD has issued an orange alert for the next few hours in Thane, Raigad, Palghar, and Mumbai city. As per the SkyMet Weather forecast, heavy to very heavy rains will continue in Mumbai from July 3rd to 5th and reach above 200 mm in many areas. However, the decision on whether schools or colleges will be closed on Friday due to the extreme downpour is yet to be known.

IMD has assigned Orange Alert for Mumbai on July 3 for heavy rainfalls between 7:04 am to 10:00 am. AccuWeather cited IMD predictions for Mumbai, which is moderate to intense spells of Rain very likely to occur at isolated places in Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburban, Palghar, Raigad, Thane districts.
Data from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) showed that highest rainfall from 8 AM on July 2, 2026, to 6 AM on July 3, 2026, was recorded in Mandavi Fire Station at 150.2 mm, followed by 145.8 mm of rainfall at Malbar Hill, 140.8 mm of rainfall at B Ward office, 140.2 mm of rainfall at Memonwada Fire Station, 139.2 mm of rainfall at Muncipal Head Office.

Authorities and experts have advised residents to stay vigilant and alert while avoiding flooded areas.
AccuWeather predicts that rains are coming donw in sheets and citizens should watch ut for flooding. The wind gusts is around 34km/h. AccuWeather forecasts rain from Friday morning to Sunday afternoon could lead to flooding.

Skymet said, "Heavy to very heavy showers in Mumbai from July 3-5 might be 200mm plus territory for more than one day."
Meanwhile, Mumbai weather tracker, Rushikesh Agre, stated that July 3-7 will be phase for lot of heavy rains around July 4 rains will gradually peak and July 5-6 will be peak for Mumbai rains.
"Rain intensity will be consistently high for next 4-5 days. Lot of rains will be there in Thane & interior MMR as well, which areas missed rains. Waterlogging, Travel disruption chances are high," Rushikesh's update added.
Overall for Mumbai, IMD said, continues spells of rain in city and suburbs. Heavy to very heavy rain at few places with possibility of extremely heavy rain at isolated places in city and suburbs. Occasional gusty winds reaching 50-60 Kmph very likely. The Maximum & Minimum temperatures likely to be around 27 deg. C. and 22 deg. C.
High Wave Alert For Thane, Mumbai Subarban, Mumbai City:
IMD has warned about high wave alert for the coast of THANE, MUMBAI SUBURBAN, MUMBAI CITY,MAHARASHTRA from Dongi Point To Belapur. High waves in the range of 3.2 - 3.4 meters are forecasted during 17:30 hours on July 1, 2026 to 23:30 hours on July 3, 2026. It advised that to be careful while doing marine operations and nearshore recreation.
Also, high waves warning in the range of 2.8-3.0 meters is issued for coast of RATNAGIRI,MAHARASHTRA from Veshawi-Bankot To Jambhari. While high waves in the range of 3.4 - 3.5 meters are forecasted for the coast of SINDHUDURG,MAHARASHTRA from Vijayadurg Hr To Terekhol.
Mumbai Rains: Are Schools & Colleges Closed On Friday?
Despite the extreme heavy rains warning, there has been no official statement regarding schools and colleges holiday in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and other places.
Palghar authorities had closed its schools on July 2nd, after Red alert was issued in the region. Also, Panvel, Uran and Raigad had announced holiday to educational institutions on Thursday as part of precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) and Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) had kept schools and colleges open on July 2nd.
Still parents should take cautious and monitor official BMC announcements, school's WhatsApp/SMS notifications and IMD weather updates.
