Mumbai Rains: Orange Alert On City, Thane, Raigad, Palghar; Schools Holiday Today, Indigo, Akasa Air Warnings

Extreme heavy to very heavy rainfalls continue to lash across Maharashtra in the early hours of July 2, 2026. The intense monsoon is likely to continue as IMD has issued Orange alert on Mumbai, Raigad, Palghar and Thane. IMD believes the temperature in Mumbai could drop to between 27 degree to 23 degree celsius. In the last 24 hours, Mumbai has recorded triple-digit reading in rainfall. Due to the weather, the flying conditions at airports are fragile and hence many airlines like Indigo and Akasa Air have issued new warnings for arrivals and departure at Mumbai airport.

Mumbai Orange Alert!

IMD issues an Orange Alert for Mumbai, predicting heavy to very heavy rains to continue in the city. An Orange alert is also assigned to the Thane region.

As per the latest update by BMC, from 8 AM on July 1, 2026, to 6 AM on July 2, 2026, Mumbai city recorded 134 mm, the eastern suburbs 164 mm, and the western suburbs 149 mm.

Meanwhile, IMD's reading showed that between 0830 hours IST on July 1st to 0530 Hours of July 2, 2026, Santacruz recorded the highest rainfall of 165.9 mm, followed by 164.5 mm rainfall at Juhu Airport, 163 mm at Vikhroli, 157 mm rainfall at Ram Mandir, 141.5 mm rainfall at Bandra, 132 mm rainfall at Vidyavihar, and 115 mm rainfall at Sion.

Due to the extreme downpour over the last 24 hours, several areas faced waterlogging, including Andheri Subway, Wadala, Worli, Bandra Kurla Complex and many other low-lying residential belts. Apart from this, Thane district, Ambernath, Kalyan, and Bhiwandi were completely flooded, impacting the daily lives of commuters.

Mumbai Rains Forecast

For July 2nd, IMD forecasts moderate to intense spells at isolated places. Accordingly, they have issued ORANGE alert on Mumbai, Raigad, Palghar and Thane.

IMD advises citizens to take precautions. These include:

- Avoid staying in weak structures and low-lying areas.

- Avoid waterlogging prone areas.

- Stay away from trees, electric poles and wires.

- Stay updated with the latest weather information.

Mumbai Rains: Are Schools and Colleges Closed On July 2?

Following red alert on Palghar, the district's Collector Dr Indu Rani Jakhar declared school holiday as precautionary measures on Thursday, July 2, 2026.

Also, Panvel district has declared holiday.

While offical statement is awaited for closure of schools and colleges in other places like Mumbai and Thane district. Still parents should take cautious and monitor official BMC announcements, school's WhatsApp/SMS notifications and IMD weather updates.

Mumbai Rains: Indigo and Akasa Air Issue Warnings

Indigo Mumbai Flights Warning:

On July 1st, Indigo said, "Bad weather over Mumbai has impacted flight schedules." It added, "We are closely monitoring the weather and doing our best to get you where you need to be, safely and smoothly."

"We request that you stay updated on your flight status via our website or app. Please be assured that our teams are here to assist you at every step and provide full support," Indigo said.

Akasa Air Mumbai Flights Warning:

Akasa Air said, "Due to heavy rainfall in Mumbai, some flights across our network may be delayed."

"We realize that this may inconvenience your travel plans and seek your patience and understanding. While this situation is completely beyond our control, please rest assured that our teams are always ready to assist you."

For Mumbai, till July 3rd, IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in city and suburbs. Possibility of extremely heavy rain towards night/morning. Occasional gusty winds reaching 50-60 kmph very likely. Maximum & Minimum temperatures are likely to be around 27 deg. C. and 23 deg. C. This prediction could be revised depending upon weather conditions on July 2, 2026.
