Extreme heavy rains are likely to continue in Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Palghar on July 6th, as IMD issues a "Red" warning for the early morning. Overall, for the day, Orange is alerted; however, Mumbai could face gusty winds up to 50-60 kmph with intense spells in the early hours. Following this, BMC has finally declared schools and colleges a holiday for Mayanagari city. Also, airlines like Indigo, Air India, SpiceJet, and Akasa Air have issued travel advisories for passengers who are arriving at or departing from Mumbai airports. Airlines have asked passengers to check their flight status before leaving, as flights could be delayed or cancelled due to the heavy rains.

Mumbai Rains Today:

IMD issues RED alert on Mumbai, Palghar, Raigad, Thane. It has predicted intense spells of rain with gusty winds reaching 50-60 kmph very likely to occur at isolated places.

Over the last 24 hours, BMC data revealed that Mumbai city witnessed more than 265 mm of rainfall, while 227 mm of rain was recorded in the suburbs by 6pm on Sunday. The intense heavy spells have disrupted lives, caused waterlogging, created mayhem on roads, and impacted train and airport services.

Also, complaints of at least 203 trees and branches falling were registered in the city from 8 am to 6 pm on July 5th. Yesterday, it was reported that four Indigo flights were cancelled and 13 others were diverted.

For 48 hours ahead, IMD has said, there will be continuous spells of rain in the city and suburbs. Very heavy rain at a few places, with extremely heavy rain at isolated places in the city and suburbs. Occasional gusty winds reaching 60-70 Kmph very likely. Maximum & minimum temperatures are likely to be around 27 deg. C. and 23 deg. C.

Indigo said, due to adverse weather conditions in Mumbai, flight operations are impacted. It said, "We understand that extended wait times, both on the ground and onboard, may cause inconvenience, and we sincerely appreciate your patience."

Mumbai Rains: Air India Travel Advisory

The Tata Group-backed airline has warned about impact on flight operations to and from Mumbai and Delhi due to the adverse weather conditions.

It has also asked its passengers to check their flight status. "To ensure a smooth travel experience, we encourage our passengers to check the latest flight status at the following link before heading to the airport."

SpiceJet said, "Due to bad weather (rain) in Mumbai (BOM), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights might get affected."

Akasa Air has issued warnings for travel destinations like Mumbai, Goa, Delhi and Pune. It said, due to severe weather conditions in these states, flights across their network may be impacted.

"We realize that this may inconvenience your travel plans and seek your patience and understanding. While this situation is completely beyond our control, please rest assured that our teams are always ready to assist you," it said.

Step 2: There are three methods to check your flight status. These are flight number, PNR and cities.

Step 3: If you choose flight number option, you will have to mention "Flight Number" and "Departure date" in the required box and then click on "Check Flight Status"

Step 4: If you select PNR option, then you will have to mention "PNR/Booking Reference/E-Ticket Number" and "Email ID/Last Name" before clicking on "Check Flight Status"

School & Colleges Holiday In Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Navi Mumbai On July 6?

BMC has declared a holiday for all government, private, and municipal schools and colleges in Mumbai on Monday, July 6, 2026, as a precautionary measure.

Similarly, schools and colleges are also declared to be closed by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation on Monday.

Also, the Raigad district collector has declared school holidays on Monday. It said, "In view of the India Meteorological Department's alert for extremely heavy rainfall, District Collector Kishan Javale has declared a holiday for all anganwadis, primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools in the district on Monday, July 6."
