Mumbai Rains Update: Monsoon Delay in Maharashtra; IMD Forecasts Hot & Humid Conditions for Next 48 Hours
The southwest monsoon has practically hit a pause button over Maharashtra, with its progress remaining stuck for nearly a week around the Harnai-Solapur belt. Despite high expectations earlier this month, the rain system is moving very sluggishly, leaving large parts of the state-including Mumbai-waiting for proper monsoon showers.
Maharashtra Monsoon Update: When Will Monsoon Arrive in Mumbai & Other Districts
Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) now suggest that the real momentum shift may come only after June 25, when conditions could finally turn favourable for a stronger push towards Mumbai and the Konkan belt.

Monsoon Delay in Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri & Across Maharashtra: Hot and Humid Conditions Likely Till June 19
Before the monsoon gains momentum, several parts of Maharashtra are expected to remain under heat and humidity stress. Coastal districts such as Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg are likely to experience uncomfortable hot-and-humid conditions through June 18-19. Similar weather is also expected across parts of north Maharashtra, Marathwada and western Maharashtra, where daytime heat and moisture levels remain high.

Districts including Dhule, Jalgaon, Nashik, Solapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed and Akola continue to be flagged for heat-related discomfort, while select areas in Vidarbha may also see isolated weather activity.
IMD Weather Forecast: Isolated Rain Likely in Parts of Maharashtra on June 18-19
Mumbai Rains & Weather Update for June 18, 2026
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at isolated places in North Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada on June 18. However, these showers are expected to remain scattered and not strong enough to mark a full monsoon onset.
Mumbai Weather Prediction for Next 48 Hours
For June 18-19, Mumbai and nearby regions are likely to see partly cloudy skies with hot and humid conditions persisting. There is also a possibility of light rain or thundershowers late in the night or early morning in some areas, offering only temporary relief from heat.
Mumbai Weather Update: Temperatures Hover Around 35°C, Humidity Remains High
Mumbai continues to experience pre-monsoon heat conditions, with maximum temperatures expected to remain around 35°C and minimum temperatures near 29°C on June 18-19, as per IMD forecasts. Despite occasional cloud cover, humidity levels are likely to remain elevated, making daytime conditions uncomfortable for residents.
While scattered light rainfall has been observed in parts of the city, it has not been widespread enough to bring down temperatures significantly or signal a sustained monsoon arrival.
When Will Rain Reach Mumbai? Monsoon Shifts to Late June-Early July
Current meteorological assessments suggest that Mumbai may have to wait until the last week of June for a stronger monsoon spell. The most favourable window for the monsoon's advance over Mumbai and the Konkan region now appears to be between June 25 and July 1.
Wider monsoon progress into Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha is expected to follow only after the system strengthens along the western coast.
Why Monsoon Is Delayed This Year: El Nino Affect on Rainfall
The delay in monsoon advancement is not only due to moisture issues over the Arabian Sea, but also because of unfavourable upper-air wind patterns. Weak monsoon flow and hot north-westerly winds have slowed the system's movement across Maharashtra.
Meteorologists also point to the southward shift of western jet streams, which disrupts the normal monsoon wind circulation. In addition, emerging El Nino conditions in the Pacific Ocean are being closely monitored as they can influence rainfall distribution across India during the season.
