Yes, tax is applicable on winnings from the Nagaland Lottery Sambad, as it falls under the category of lottery income governed by Indian tax laws.

If a winner receives prize money exceeding Rs 10,000 from any Nagaland state lottery draw, TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) will be applicable under Section 194B of the Income Tax Act. In such cases, the prize amount is paid only after deducting TDS at the rate of 31.2% (including cess).

This means that even though Nagaland Lottery is a government-authorised scheme, the winnings are still fully taxable. The same rule applies to other similar games of chance, including horse race winnings, where TDS is triggered if the prize exceeds Rs 10,000.
