Why Has the Karnataka Government Increased Nandini Milk Prices?

Milk producers had reportedly sought an increase of at least Rs.10 per litre. However, the Karnataka government settled on an Rs. 8 per litre hike after considering the financial requirements of farmers and the additional burden on consumers.

The government had also delayed the decision while the Model Code of Conduct was in force for the Legislative Council elections.

The revised procurement rate is intended to provide farmers with greater financial support, while the additional Re 1 allocated to dairy cooperatives will help support their operations.
