Nandini Milk Price Hike: Karnataka Government May Increase Price By Rs 4-5 Per Litre; Check Expected Price

Karnataka's Nandini milk prices are set for another revision, with the state government giving an in-principle nod to increase the retail rate by Rs 4 to Rs 5 per litre. If the proposal is formally cleared, regular Nandini milk could become costlier from around Rs 46 to Rs 50-51 per litre, adding to the monthly milk bill of households across the state.

Nandini Milk Price Hike: Karnataka Government Gives In-Principle Nod To Rs 4-5 Hike

The proposed hike comes after sustained demands from milk producers' cooperative unions and dairy farmers, who have been seeking better returns amid rising costs of cattle feed, fodder, veterinary care and other dairy-related expenses.

Nandini Milk Price May Rise To Rs 50-51

The proposed Rs 4-5 increase would directly affect the retail price paid by consumers across Karnataka. However, the final product-wise prices and the date from which the new rates will apply will be clear only after the government issues its formal order.

For a household buying one litre of milk every day, a Rs 5 per litre increase would translate into an additional monthly expense of around Rs 150. Families consuming two litres a day would see their monthly milk expenditure rise by roughly Rs 300.

The impact could extend beyond households. Milk is a major input for tea shops, hotels, bakeries and other small food businesses, where even a modest increase in the price of a daily-use commodity can raise operating costs.

Why Is Nandini Milk Price Increasing In Karnataka? Know Dairy Unions' Demands

The proposed revision follows pressure from Karnataka's district cooperative milk producers' unions and dairy farmers for an increase in milk prices and better procurement returns. The unions had reportedly sought a larger increase of Rs 8 to Rs 10 per litre, arguing that the cost of dairy farming has risen significantly. Expenses on cattle feed, fodder, transportation, medicines and maintenance have put pressure on farmers' margins.
