A businessman from Navi Mumbai, allegedly abducted due to a financial conflict, was rescued within a day, according to police reports on Tuesday. The Navi Mumbai police announced the arrest of three individuals in connection with the crime early on Tuesday. The suspects were identified as Rusikesh Indrabushan Ingole, Mangesh Kisan Astarkar, and Sagar Narendra Manvar, all from Washim district in eastern Maharashtra.

The victim, Pankesh Sanjay Patil, aged 27, is involved in the export-import of vegetables and operates from Akshar Business Park in Navi Mumbai. He was kidnapped on the night of May 18 within the jurisdiction of APMC police station but was found within 24 hours in Washim district. The incident occurred around 8:45 p.m. when Patil was returning home on a motorbike with his business partner.
Financial Dispute Leads to Abduction
According to the police release, a car with armed men intercepted Patil and his partner in Turbhe area. The assailants pulled their motorcycle aside and attacked Patil with sharp and blunt objects, injuring him. They then forced him into their car and fled the scene. A complaint by Patil's business partner led to an FIR being registered under various sections related to kidnapping and assault.
The APMC police registered an FIR on May 19 under sections including 1401 for kidnapping or abducting in order to murder or for ransom, 142 for wrongfully concealing or keeping in confinement a kidnapped or abducted person, 1262 for wrongful restraint, and 135 for assault or criminal force in attempt to wrongfully confine a person.
Swift Police Action Ensures Rescue
To solve the case, ten teams were formed, including three from the crime branch. These teams inspected the crime scene, reviewed CCTV footage from the area and toll booths in Navi Mumbai and Thane district. They also conducted technical investigations and interviewed the complainant along with office staff and other related individuals.
Acting on a tip-off, the police teams reached Washim where Patil was held by his abductors. They successfully rescued him and apprehended the accused individuals. Initial investigations suggest that the abduction was motivated by a financial dispute involving Patil.
The quick response by law enforcement highlights their efficiency in handling such critical situations. The case underscores the importance of rapid action and coordination among police teams to ensure public safety.
