The National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) plans to significantly increase its textbook production, aiming to print 15 crore books this year. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan shared this development during an event marking the signing of a Letter of Engagement between NCERT and Amazon. Since 1963, NCERT has been a key player in India's education sector, having published around 220 crore books and journals.

Pradhan emphasised the need for textbooks to be available at their maximum retail price (MRP). He highlighted the importance of creating engaging learning experiences for the 300 million students in the Amrit Kaal. To achieve this, he encouraged the development of interactive e-books with features like talking books, driven by artificial intelligence.
Amazon's Role in Distribution
NCERT textbooks for all grades will now be accessible on Amazon's newly launched NCERT storefront. This initiative aims to curb the sale of pirated textbooks by ensuring only original NCERT books are sold. The partnership with Amazon will help monitor and eliminate unauthorised sellers distributing counterfeit or overpriced books.
Amazon's extensive delivery network will enable students and schools, even in remote areas, to purchase textbooks at the prescribed prices. This move addresses issues like supply gaps, delayed availability, and regional shortages, ensuring equitable access to educational resources across India.
Facilitating Bulk Orders
In addition to individual sales, Amazon will collaborate with NCERT to streamline bulk ordering processes for government agencies and schools. This collaboration aims to simplify procurement for institutions needing large volumes of textbooks. Designated distribution vendors have been appointed by NCERT to work with Amazon sellers, ensuring timely and efficient deliveries.
Saurabh Srivastava, Vice President of Categories at Amazon India, stated, "Amazon is trusted by millions of Indians across the country every day for making essential products easily accessible, and we believe that quality education should be no exception." He added that by providing genuine NCERT textbooks at fair prices, Amazon contributes to a more transparent and reliable educational ecosystem.
This initiative will make it easier for students, parents, and educators to access necessary resources without compromise. The collaboration between NCERT and Amazon aims to support learning journeys by ensuring availability and affordability of educational materials nationwide.
