NEET-UG 2026 Re-Exam Today: NTA Deploys 1.38 Lakh CCTV Cameras, 51,000+ Jammers Across India
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has put in place one of the most extensive security frameworks in Indian examination history for the NEET-UG 2026 re-exam, held on June 21 deploying over 1.38 lakh CCTV cameras and more than 51,000 jammers across thousands of centres as it struggles to restore credibility after a devastating paper leak that cancelled the original May 3 exam.

Neet Re-Exam 2026
The original NEET-UG 2026 exam, held on May 3 for over 2.27 million aspirants, was cancelled on May 12 after investigations that revealed major overlaps between a pre-circulated guess paper and the actual question paper. Allegations emerged that a guess paper shared through WhatsApp and other channels in coaching centres in Sikar, Rajasthan, closely matched many questions in the real exam, especially in Chemistry and Biology with an overlap of up to 120 to 140 questions.
The CBI officially took over the investigation on May 12 and arrested several individuals, including a Pune-based chemistry professor described as a main accused with links to NTA processes, and a biology professor. Investigators said the network was spread across Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and other states.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan admitted there had been a "breach in the command chain" and announced plans to move NEET to a computer-based exam format from 2027.
The re-examination is being conducted across 5,440 centres in 551 cities in India and 14 centres abroad, in English and 12 Indian languages. Over 22.79 lakh candidates are registered to appear.
Surveillance Infrastructure For Neet Re Exam
A total of 1,38,560 CCTV cameras have been installed across more than 95,000 examination rooms, with feeds monitored virtually at the national, state, and ministry levels. The CCTV feeds are also being analysed through AI-based tools to flag anomalies in real time.
To secure the examination against electronic malpractice, 51,311 jammers have been deployed, 17,054 by ECIL and 34,257 by BEL.
On the ground, the NTA has deployed two invigilators in every examination room and more than ten additional functionaries at each centre. Candidate verification and frisking arrangements have been put in place with 38,795 frisking staff and 48,448 biometric personnel, with biometric manpower doubled and supported by face authentication. Around 6,700 observers and more than 100 virtual observers have been deployed, while an average of 40 to 50 security personnel have been stationed at each centre.
Mock Drills On June 20
A nationwide mock drill was conducted on June 20 to verify all systems, jammers, CCTV, frisking staff, and biometrics. Coordinators verified examination material held in custodian banks and confirmed its availability.
Other Candidate-Friendly Measures
In coordination with state governments, student-friendly facilities are being provided at centres, including drinking water, ORS, ambulances, and shaded waiting areas for parents. Each examination room has a wall clock, and additional rough-work pages have been provided with pages at the beginning of the booklet for the convenience of left-handed candidates.
States including Punjab, Odisha, Delhi, Uttarakhand, and Bihar have announced free transportation for NEET aspirants, with one accompanying parent or guardian also eligible for free travel.
Telegram Ban Ahead of Neet Re-Exam
Even before the re-exam began, the government temporarily blocked messaging app Telegram across India until June 22 to prevent misinformation from spreading.
