NeGD and Indian Ports Association Collaborate to Enhance Digital Transformation in India's Maritime Sector
The National e-Governance Division (NeGD) and the Indian Ports Association (IPA) have initiated a collaboration to enhance digital integration within India's maritime sector. This partnership, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to leverage NeGD's technological capabilities alongside IPA's expertise in maritime logistics.

The agreement was signed on December 24, 2024, by Nand Kumarum, President and CEO of NeGD, and Vikas Narwal, Managing Director of IPA. Arvind Bhisikar, Executive Director IT of IPA, and Rajnish Kumar, Chief Operating Officer of NeGD, were also present at the signing.
Digital Transformation in Maritime Sector
This collaboration seeks to tackle persistent issues such as fragmented logistics systems and outdated practices in ports and shipping. By integrating real-time data and analytics, the partnership envisions interconnected ports across India that optimise operations and improve supply chain efficiencies.
Advanced software development and system integration are key focus areas. The initiative will also emphasise capacity building and the adoption of emerging technologies to modernise port operations.
Addressing Operational Challenges
The partnership aims to resolve challenges like insufficient digital infrastructure in the maritime industry. By combining their strengths, NeGD and IPA intend to create a seamless digital ecosystem that enhances operational efficiency.
The National e-Governance Division was established in 2009 under the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MEITy). It operates as an independent business division within the Digital India Corporation, focusing on promoting digital governance initiatives.
This strategic alliance is expected to significantly impact India's maritime sector by fostering innovation and improving logistical frameworks. Through this joint effort, both organisations aim to set a new standard for digital adoption in the industry.
