Protests in Nepal intensified despite the lifting of the social media ban, leading to the resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Demonstrators demand political change after violent clashes that caused 20 deaths and over 250 injuries. The focus shifts to political dialogue as unrest continues.
Despite the government's decision to lift the social media ban, protests in Nepal persisted for a second day. Demonstrators demanded the resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and the dismissal of his government following Monday's violence, which resulted in 20 deaths and over 250 injuries. Sources indicated that Oli might seek asylum in Dubai.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resigned on Tuesday amid escalating protests against the social media ban. His aide, Prakash Silwal, confirmed the resignation. In his letter, Oli stated he was stepping down "to facilitate a solution to the problem and to help resolve it politically."

Protests Intensify Despite Government Measures
Even after announcing the lifting of the social media ban, protests continued with demonstrators demanding Oli's ouster. The unrest followed a violent Monday where 20 people died and more than 250 were injured. Protesters targeted homes and offices of senior political figures, setting fire to Nepal's Parliament and vandalising residences of both the Prime Minister and President.
Hours before resigning, Oli urged protesters to maintain peace and engage in dialogue for solutions. He announced an all-party meeting at 6 pm to address the crisis. "Any form of violence is not in the national interest. We must adopt peaceful dialogue and discussion," Oli stated.
Military Involvement Amidst Political Turmoil
Oli sought military assistance from Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel to manage the deteriorating situation and ensure his safe exit from the Prime Minister's residence. The Army Chief advised him to step down, suggesting that stability could only be achieved if he relinquished power.
Security operations intensified across Kathmandu as helicopters evacuated government officials from Bhaisepati ministerial quarters to Tribhuvan International Airport. At least five army helicopters transported key ministers before the airport was shut down due to escalating unrest.
Escalating Unrest Affects Air Travel
Tribhuvan International Airport faced disruptions as protesters called for interference with operations using drones, fireworks, and laser lights aimed at aircraft. Consequently, all flights were cancelled amid growing tensions.
The Singha Durbar area, housing ministers' residences and Parliament, witnessed attacks with several videos showing thick smoke as protesters set buildings on fire. The situation remains volatile as authorities attempt to restore order amidst ongoing demonstrations.
The resignation of KP Sharma Oli marks a significant development in Nepal's political landscape amidst widespread unrest. The focus now shifts towards finding a peaceful resolution through dialogue among political parties.
