Industry body CEAMA said that new energy labeling rules that will come into effect from January next year will make manufacturing of 5-star rated refrigerators dearer by up to Rs. 6000. As a new challenge, the labeling norms mandatorily require manufacturers to switch from the conventional for cooling in respect of the 5-star rated refrigerator range to vacuum panels.

As the new labeling norms for consumer durables with compressor by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) would be made applicable from January 2020 and so manufactures will not be able to produce five star label refrigerators.
"The same product which is now available at some price would go up by at least Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000 because we have to put a vacuum panel to get a 5 star refrigerator," said CEAMA President Kamal Nandi.
He further said "nobody would pay that amount and I also do not have that scale to put that investment on my plant as that requires a different line for that".
In respect of the performance of the industry as a whole, he ushered that it is again on track. Also it said that they are demanding a reduction in GST levied on ACs and bring it down to 18%.
