New IRCTC Website by July 15: End of CAPTCHA Nightmares and Tatkal Glitches? All You Need To Know

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has promised a completely revamped IRCTC website by July 15 weeks after people have continuously raised the concerns over the platform's chronic CAPTCHA failures, payment errors, and Tatkal booking crashes.

IRCTC Website

If you have ever booked a train ticket on IRCTC, you know how it works. You log in early, fight a broken CAPTCHA, wait for an OTP that takes a lots of time to come and by then all the available seats disappear mid-transaction. Even if you are able to make the payment you receive the message: "Payment Success, Ticket Booking Failed."

Millions of Indian railway passengers face this every day where their money is gone but the ticket is not booked.

Railway Minister on New IRCTC Website

During an interaction with students at Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur, on June 11, a student directly flagged problems with the IRCTC website and its CAPTCHA system. Hearing the feedback, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw immediately contacted officials and instructed them to develop a new website, announcing that a revamped IRCTC portal would be launched on July 15. The minister made a 30-day on-the-spot commitment for a platform used by millions daily.

Why Passengers Have Been Complaining

Among the most common issues reported by passengers are slow performance during Tatkal bookings window which begins at 10 AM for AC class and 11 AM for sleeper class, delays in receiving OTPs, payment failures, repeated CAPTCHA verification, and app crashes during peak traffic hours. Users have faced delays in page loading when Tatkal bookings open, while some transactions fail after payment despite seats initially appearing available.

Expected Features of The New IRCTC Website

No official technical specifications have been released yet. However, the revamp is can be expected around faster ticket booking, higher PRS (Passenger Reservation System) capacity, and reduced glitches in the online reservations system.

Several reports also say that a more intuitive user interface, improved server capacity, and a smoother experience during peak-traffic tatkal booking windows can be added.
