New Year's Eve: December 31st is going to be filled with a lot of enthusiasm and energy with citizens globally looking to celebrate the last day of the 2024 year, and welcome the new year 2025 after midnight. December 31 is declared as public holiday by many state government and RBI, Accordingly, certain services will be either reduced or closed. Here's a list of what is opened or closed on December 31.

What Is Open On Tuesday, December 31?

Private Companies: The majority of private companies do not see December 31st as a holiday, and hence, most Indian corporate employees will be working on Tuesday.

Restaurants, Clubs, Cafe Shops, Local Vendors And Bars: The majority of restaurants, bars, and clubs in metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Pune, Goa, and Bengaluru will be opened. There is a possibility some cities would have permitted these restaurants to operate till late hours. Some themes or events would be in full swing in many of these places. Eventually, local street food shops will be open as well.

Hotels and Resorts: There will be a massive rush to hotels and resorts as citizens look to celebrate December 31st and welcome the new year. Some restaurants would have special events, parties or activities to stir up enthusiasm for December 31.

Markets And Shopping Malls: These areas will be busy on December 31 due to New Year sales offers and discounts. Some shopping malls and markets would even operate for extended hours.

Transportation: The public buses, local trains, metros and other services will be operational, however, they might operate for a shorter time period or have lesser availability of services.

ATM Services: With minimal bank branches operating, services at ATMs will be opened 24X7 for withdrawing, depositing, checking balance, or getting bank statements among others.

What Is Closed On New Year's Eve?

Banks Holidays: Not every bank across the country will be closed. However, RBI has declared holidays for cities like Gangtok and Gangtok. Notably, not all private banks will be closed. However, PSU banks are likely to be closed across the cities or at least have a half day.

International Companies: Notably, international companies like IT or MNCs who have hubs in India as well, will most likely be closed since many Western countries and in Asia see December 31st as a holiday.

Schools: Almost every school is on Christmas vacation which includes December 31st along with January 1st holidays across the country. Hence, the majority of schools will be closed.

Government Offices: Many states would follow December 31st as a holiday and hence government offices will be closed.

Post Offices: With December 31st seen as a public holiday, Indian Post Offices will be closed as well.
