New Zealand and Gujarat Discuss Potential Cooperation in Various Sectors

A nine-member delegation from New Zealand, led by Agriculture Minister Todd McClay, visited Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar on Wednesday. They discussed potential cooperation in various sectors. The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) stated that the delegation included New Zealand's High Commissioner to India, Patrick Rata.

Strategic Partnership and Cultural Relations

During the meeting, New Zealand representatives expressed their eagerness to develop long-term cultural ties with Gujarat. They also showed interest in collaborating in agriculture, the dairy industry, and renewable energy. The CMO highlighted that both sides emphasised launching a Farmer Exchange Programme to strengthen cooperation in agriculture and dairy sectors.

Chief Minister Patel shared his vision to double farmers' income through cow-based farming in Gujarat. He discussed potential collaboration with New Zealand in agriculture, dairy cooperatives, and animal husbandry. Patel noted that Gujarat is a leading state in milk production and is keen to work with New Zealand in renewable energy, green hydrogen, and electric vehicle manufacturing.

Prospects for Cooperation

New Zealand's Agriculture Minister McClay discussed the scope for collaboration with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) located in Anand city, Gujarat. The board was established to promote, finance, and support producer-owned organisations. McClay also indicated good prospects for cooperation in converting waste to bioenergy and suggested starting a veterinary exchange programme for mutual benefit.

Chief Minister Patel mentioned the significant Gujarati community residing in New Zealand. He stressed the importance of organising regular meetings to deepen cultural relations between Gujarat and New Zealand. Patel expressed confidence that Gujarat would play a crucial role in enhancing bilateral ties under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.

The meeting concluded with both sides expressing optimism about future collaborations. The discussions highlighted the potential for strategic partnerships and cultural exchanges between Gujarat and New Zealand.
