Nifty 50 Reshuffle September 2026: BSE Likely to Enter, Wipro May Exit; Check Stocks Set for Major Changes
The September 2026 Nifty 50 reshuffle could bring a major change to the benchmark index, with BSE Ltd likely to enter and Wipro Ltd expected to exit, according to projections by Nuvama Alternative and Quantitative Research. The brokerage expects the changes to be announced after market hours on August 10, 2026, and implemented from September 30, 2026. The review could also trigger changes in the Nifty Next 50 and bring REITs into broader NSE equity indices.
Nifty 50 September 2026 Review: BSE May Enter, Wipro Could Exit
According to Nuvama's assessment, BSE currently meets the eligibility requirements for Nifty 50 inclusion under the prevailing methodology. If included, BSE could attract estimated passive inflows of around $741 million as index-tracking funds adjust their portfolios.

On the other hand, Wipro could be removed from the Nifty 50. Nuvama estimates that the IT major could face passive outflows of around $246 million following an exclusion.
The projected changes are not final. The Nifty Index Committee will take the final decision, and any changes to the index methodology before the announcement could alter the outcome. Nuvama said TVS Motor Company could become a potential replacement for Wipro if the methodology changes.
A change in the Nifty 50 can influence stock prices because several index funds and ETFs track the benchmark. When a stock enters the index, passive funds generally need to buy it to match its new index weight. When a stock exits, these funds typically sell their holdings.
This can create significant buying or selling around the date when the reshuffle takes effect. However, index inclusion or exclusion does not necessarily reflect a change in a company's long-term fundamentals.
Nifty Next 50 May Also See Changes
The Nifty Next 50 could also undergo a sizeable reshuffle. If Wipro leaves the Nifty 50, Nuvama expects it to move into the Nifty Next 50. Other potential additions identified by the brokerage include Vedanta Aluminium, Hitachi Energy, Idea, Polycab and BHEL.
Vedanta Aluminium could attract the highest estimated passive inflow among the projected additions at around $143 million, followed by BHEL at $111 million, Wipro at $95 million, Polycab at $92 million, Power India at $75 million and Idea at $71 million.
In terms of estimated share purchases, Idea could see the highest buying at around 489.8 million shares, followed by Wipro at 51 million shares, Vedanta Aluminium at 30 million shares and BHEL at 25.9 million shares.
Indian Hotels, REC among Likely Nifty Next 50 Exits
Nuvama expects Indian Hotels Company, REC, United Spirits, Shree Cement, Lodha Developers and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders to potentially move out of the Nifty Next 50.
Indian Hotels could see the largest estimated passive outflow at around $124 million, followed by REC at $84 million and United Spirits at $78 million. Shree Cement, Lodha Developers and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders could see estimated outflows of $68 million, $64 million and $35 million, respectively.
REITs May Enter NSE Equity Indices
The September review could also be significant for REITs after SEBI allowed them to become eligible for inclusion in NSE equity indices. Nuvama expects Embassy Office Parks REIT to qualify for the Nifty Midcap 150, while Brookfield India REIT could enter the Nifty Smallcap 250.
