Nifty Ends Flat, Sensex Loses 64 Points; Metals, FMCG Pack Gains

After opening weak, indices pared most losses, helped by gains in the metal and FMCG pack. Broader markets too trade strong in comparison to headline indices, with Nifty Midcap trading higher by over 0.4 percent.

At the close, Nifty was up by a tad 3 points, while Sensex ended with loss of 64 points.

Among the major gainers on the Nifty were stocks like SBI Life Insurance, Bharti Airtel, Adani Ports, Tata Steel and Maruti Suzuki, while losers included Titan, IndusInd Bank, Reliance, Axis Bank and BPCL.

Reliance Industries lost over 2 percent on profit booking even as the company doubled its Q4FY21 profit on a year on year basis.

Sugar stocks were on a boil surging between 15-20% as there was surge in sugar price by 5-10 percent in a months' time. Dhampur Sugar Mills in today's session surged as much as 20%.

Meanwhile, European stocks at the time of writing this report traded mixed with FTSE, while DAX and CAC traded weak.
