Nifty Ends The Day Lower After Volatile Session
Benchmark indices which traded significantly higher by more than 3 per cent in intra-day, gave-up all those gains and ended the day lower.
The Sensex ended the day lower by 173 points, while the Nifty closed the day lower by 44 points. Interestingly, the Nifty midcap and the Nifty smallcap index ended the day higher.
TCS, Titan Company, Shree Cements and Bharti Airtel were among the big losers in trade. On the other hand Nifty stocks that gained ground were Vedanta, Cipla, Sun Pharma and NTPC.
Among the largecap stocks that saw the biggest gains were Bandhan Bank, Alkem Laboratories and Cadilla.
Shares in TVS Motors surged following a report in Bloomberg News that it is among the prospective bidders considering making an offer for Norton Motorcycles of the U.K.
Meanwhile, most Asian markets ended the day lower, while European markets were trading with losses. There were reports that countries in Europe had failed to agree on a coronavirus stimulus. Meanwhile, Dow Futures also pointed to lower openings across the US markets.
