Union Minister Nitin Gadkari emphasized the need for a permanent cadre in the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to ensure efficient highway management and technical expertise. He highlighted the significance of sending staff to IITs for advanced training and urged officials to make prompt decisions and avoid file pendency. Gadkari also expressed concern about the increasing number of accident black spots on national highways and set a target to rectify all such spots by March 2025.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari emphasized the urgent need for a permanent cadre within the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) during an event in New Delhi on Tuesday. He highlighted the significance of establishing a dedicated cadre to enhance the efficiency and expertise of NHAI personnel.

Benefits of a Permanent Cadre
Gadkari explained that a permanent cadre would enable NHAI staff to undergo specialized technical training at prestigious institutions like the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). This would empower them with advanced knowledge and skills, allowing them to effectively address the challenges of highway construction and maintenance.
The minister also stressed the importance of fostering a sense of ownership among employees. He believes that permanent employees exhibit a higher level of commitment and dedication to the organization, leading to improved performance and overall organizational success.
Addressing Black Spots on National Highways
Expressing concern over the increasing number of accident black spots on national highways, Gadkari revealed that over 9,000 such spots have been identified. In response, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has set an ambitious target to rectify all black spots across the country by March 2025.
Accident black spots are designated as stretches of approximately 500 meters on national highways where at least five accidents have occurred within a three-year period, resulting in 10 fatalities. NHAI and the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) hold primary responsibility for constructing and maintaining national highways and expressways in India.
Nitin Gadkari's advocacy for a permanent cadre in NHAI and his focus on eliminating accident black spots demonstrate the government's commitment to improving the safety and efficiency of India's national highway network. These initiatives are expected to enhance the overall transportation infrastructure and contribute to the nation's economic growth and development.
