No Relief To Senior Citizens And Other Categories As Railways Not To Resume Concessions On Fare

In a written reply to the question raised in the Lok Sabha in the ongoing Winter Session of the Parliament, Ashwini Vaishnav- Union Railway, Communications & Electronics & Information Technology minister said that amid the pandemic and set protocols, the discount on fares extended by the Indian Railways for all classes to some passenger categories shall not be resumed as of now.

No Relief Yet As Railways Not To Resume Concessions On Ticket Fare

From March 2020, the extended discount for all passenger categories stands withdrawn except for 4 categories of Divyangjan and 11 categories of Patients and Students.

How much discount senior citizens used to get on travel via Indian Railways?

Irrespective of the class booked for travel, senior citizens previously could get up to 50 percent discount. Women passengers were given 50% concession on railways ticket booking, while male senior citizens were entitled to 40 percent discount of ticket fare.

In all the Railways extends concession to 53 passenger categories including senior citizens, medical professionals, sports persons and students among others. The concessions were done away with in order to discourage people from travelling via rail amid the pandemic threat.
