Noida Authority Issues New Rule: Immediate Removal of Flower Pots from Buildings After Pune Tragic Accident

After a tragic incident in Pune, where a child lost their life due to a falling flower pot, the Noida Authority has mandated the removal of flower pots from balcony edges in residential complexes. This new safety regulation was introduced by Lokesh M, the Chief Executive Officer of the Noida Authority on Wednesday. He stressed the importance of immediate compliance, warning that non-compliance could lead to severe legal consequences, including FIRs being filed against the Apartment Owners Association (AOA) office-bearers or, in their absence, the builder or the individual apartment owner.

Strict New Rule in Noida Buildings: Immediate Removal of Flower Pots

Rajiva Singh, president of the Noida Federation of Apartment Owners Association, expressed that the Noida Authority should take action directly against flat owners who break the rules, rather than the AOA office-bearers. He explained that AOAs don't have the power to enforce rules against flat owners and suggested that the authority should amend the rules to allow them to take action against violators, as flat owners often ignore AOA directives.

Lokesh M explained the enforcement process, saying that all flower pots placed on balcony parapets or stands need to be removed immediately. He warned that anyone not following the rule could face strict action, including an FIR against the President or Secretary of the AOA.

In societies without an AOA, the builder and flat owner would be held responsible. This decision comes after a sad incident where a child was fatally injured by a flower pot that fell from a balcony in a society compound, an event that gained attention on social media. The authority has tasked AOAs with informing residents about the new directive through notice boards, WhatsApp groups, or SMS messages to ensure full compliance.

Additionally, it was pointed out that some residents have been extending their balconies to make space for flower pots or vases, which is considered unauthorized construction under current regulations. The Noida Authority's actions are aimed at preventing such incidents in the future, highlighting a proactive approach to ensuring public safety.

This measure is part of a broader regional response to safety concerns about falling objects from high-rise buildings. Similar safety advisories have been issued in neighboring cities. For example, in Greater Noida, a delivery worker was injured in December last year by a falling flower pot, and the Ghaziabad administration issued a safety advisory earlier this month following the tragic Pune incident.
