Noida Traffic Police has recently implemented a strict lane change rule to enhance road safety and reduce traffic congestion. Violating these rules can result in a fine of Rs.2,000. Here's what you need to know to avoid penalties.
What is the new lane change rule?
The Noida Traffic Police have introduced "No Lane Changing Zones" in specific areas where reckless lane-switching frequently causes accidents and traffic jams. Lane changes are prohibited in these zones, and violators will be fined Rs. 2,000.
These zones have clearly marked road signs around 100 meters before intersections or roundabouts, giving warning to drivers to stay in their designated lanes.

Noida traffic police are focusing on maintaining lane discipline to help reduce the increasing traffic congestion. This rule is expected to improve road safety and reduce accidents along with ensuring smooth traffic flow during peak hours. Additionally, this new lane change rule will also make driving more systematic and organized in metro cities.
Key Locations Under No Lane Changing Zones
As per Noida Traffic Police, the strictest lane discipline enforcement will take place in these high-traffic areas. These areas now have dedicated Lane Change Zones, where drivers are allowed to switch lanes before reaching restricted areas.
- Charkha Roundabout near Amity University
- Gardens Galleria Mall to Film City
- Bird Feeding Point near Dalit Prerna Sthal
Penalties and Fines for Lane Violations
The fine amount for traffic rule violation is set at Rs. 2,000 per violation. The police have already issued 335 fines since implementation as per reports. The Noida traffic police have installed CCTV cameras and on-ground traffic personnel who are constantly monitoring.
How to Avoid a Rs. 2,000 Fine?
To ensure you follow the new lane discipline rules and avoid penalties, here are some essential driving tips:
- Watch out for signs indicating 'No Lane Changing Zones' to avoid accidental violations.
- If you need to switch lanes, do so before entering restricted zones.
- Stay in the lane you are already in while passing through intersections and roundabouts.
- Reckless lane-cutting and last-minute lane shifts can now lead to automated challans via CCTV cameras.
