Fresh unrest broke out in parts of Noida on Monday as factory workers demanding a wage hike intensified their protest, with the situation turning volatile in some areas. Officials said employees from multiple industrial units assembled in large numbers, raising slogans and pressing for a long-overdue revision in salaries.
Noida Protest For Salary Hikes: Workers Demand Higher Pay & 8-Hour Shifts
Many of the workers claimed their monthly earnings remain below Rs 15,000, making it increasingly difficult to manage household expenses amid rising costs. They also alleged long working hours, stating that 12-hour shifts are common, and demanded that work be limited to standard 8-hour shifts.

Traffic Chaos in Noida; Vehicles Vandalised in Phase-2 Amid Wage Hike Protests
The agitation led to widespread traffic disruptions across the city, particularly in key industrial corridors. Commuters reported being stuck in long queues, with bumper-to-bumper congestion stretching for kilometres and delays lasting over an hour in several locations.
Tensions escalated further in the Phase-2 industrial area, where visuals from the ground showed protesters damaging vehicles, including a police van. Authorities responded by deploying additional security personnel to the affected zones in an effort to bring the situation under control and prevent further escalation.
The protesting workers have reiterated their demand for better wages and improved working conditions, while officials continue to monitor the situation closely.
Delhi-Noida Border Hit by Traffic Snarls; Alternate Routes Advised
The impact of the protests was most visible near the Delhi-Noida border, particularly around the Chilla Border and Noida Link Road, where long traffic snarls were reported. Authorities noted that congestion persisted for hours, causing inconvenience to daily commuters.
Traffic police have advised motorists to avoid the affected stretches and opt for alternate routes. Commuters are being redirected via the DND Flyway through Sarai Kale Khan or the NH-24 corridor, with access to Noida through Kondli Bridge and Noida Mod.
Protests Spread to Faridabad and Rajasthan; Motherson Group Workers Stage Protest
The unrest is not limited to Noida. Similar demonstrations have been reported in Faridabad, where employees of the Motherson Group are protesting for better wages. In some cases, workers reportedly entered factory premises and prevented senior staff from leaving.
Protests have also spread to parts of Bhiwadi, indicating a wider wave of labour unrest across industrial regions.
Cab, Auto and Bike Fares Surge Amid Noida Protests
The ongoing protests and the resulting traffic disruptions have also led to a spike in local transportation costs across affected areas. Commuters reported a noticeable increase in fares for cabs, auto-rickshaws, and bike taxis, as congestion and diversions reduced vehicle availability.
Many passengers said they were forced to pay higher-than-usual rates or wait significantly longer to secure a ride.
Protest in Noida: Helpline Numbers Issued, Control Room Set Up
Authorities have issued a traffic helpline number, 9971009001, for real-time updates and assistance. Additionally, a dedicated control room has been established to address workers' grievances. Employees can contact 0120-2978231, 0120-2978232, 0120-2978862, or 0120-2978702 to register complaints.
Officials have urged commuters to plan their travel in advance and stay updated as the situation remains fluid, with intermittent disruptions continuing in parts of the city.
