Indias Aesthetic Market Booms

Market Growth and Trends

The aesthetic medicine market in India is currently valued at around USD 1.6 billion and is growing at a rate of 13.2 per cent. Industry projections estimate that the market will reach USD 3.02 billion by 2029. This growth is attributed to increased awareness and self-motivation, especially in the era of social media where everyone wants to look good.

Dr Rashmi Shetty noted that these treatments contribute to psychological well-being, leading to a rise in men opting for minimally invasive procedures. "With growing awareness and self-motivation in the era of social media, where everyone wants to look good and have no filter. These treatments bring psychological well-being to people," she said.

Changing Demographics

Traditionally dominated by women, the aesthetic treatment sector is now seeing more men availing these services. Dr Sanjeev Nelogi mentioned that what was once considered exclusive to film stars and celebrities is now being chosen by common people to boost their confidence. "Once it was believed that such treatments are for film stars and celebrities, however, there is an upward trend in common people choosing the aesthetic route to be more confident in their appearance," he said.

Gen Z is also increasingly opting for non-invasive or minimally invasive aesthetic treatments as preventive measures. This shift is mainly due to heightened awareness about these treatments and increased disposable income among younger generations.

Impact of Technology

Dr Anjali Ghatge discussed the role of technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the sector, stating that it is still in its early stages but is already aiding in detailed skin analysis and body contouring. "Talking about the importance of technology and Artificial Intelligence in the sector, Dr Anjali Ghatge said it is at a very nascent stage and is helping in detailed skin analysis and body contouring."

The pandemic has also played a significant role in shifting consumer focus towards wellness and self-care, according to an Allergan Aesthetics spokesperson. "The pandemic brought a greater focus on wellness and self-care which was an important shift for consumers," they said.

Research reports indicate that procedures once kept secret are now becoming cultural mainstays, with Allergan Aesthetics leading the conversation on this trend.

India's potential as a global leader in aesthetic medicine looks promising with these ongoing trends and technological advancements shaping the industry.
