NPCI Bhim Services Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), unveiled the much-anticipated BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money) 3.0 app, packed with a host of new features aimed at enhancing user experience and financial management.

BHIM 3.0 marks the third major upgrade to the app since its initial launch in 2016. With this new version, the app focuses not only on improving the overall user experience and accessibility but also on introducing powerful financial tools to cater to the evolving needs of users.

"Efforts should continue to be focused on monitoring customer satisfaction and ensuring that suitable address mechanism is available to those who are already onboarded so that they do not move away to other places," Reserve Bank of India executive director Vivek Deep said at the event.

New Features In BHIM 3.0

Bhim Vega - A key addition to BHIM 3.0, Bhim Vega is an in-app payment solution that integrates seamlessly with online merchant platforms. This feature enables customers to complete payments instantly within the app, eliminating the need to switch to third-party apps for transactions.

More Language Support - BHIM 3.0 broadens its reach by supporting over 15 Indian languages, making the app more inclusive and accessible to users across different linguistic regions of India.

Split Expenses - This feature allows users to easily split expenses with family or friends. Whether it's a rent payment, dining out, or a group purchase, users can divide the total amount and make payments directly through the app, ensuring quick and hassle-free settlements.

Family Mode - BHIM 3.0 introduces a Family Mode feature that enables users to onboard family members, track shared expenses, and assign specific payments to individuals. This tool facilitates better financial planning by providing a consolidated view of household finances.

Spending Analysis - A newly designed dashboard offers an intuitive overview of a user's monthly spending patterns. The app automatically categorizes expenses, helping users analyze and manage their budget more efficiently without the need for complex spreadsheets.

Action Needed - This built-in task assistant feature is a reminder tool that keeps users on top of their financial activities. It alerts users of pending bills linked to their BHIM account, prompts them to enable UPI Lite, and notifies them when their Lite balance is running low.

"See, when you put up a clean UI UX and give a customer experience, there will be an organic growth in market share. And we will continue working on retention, because all this while, we were not putting this out as a commercial app, we were looking at it more as a reference app. So I'm sure organic acquisitions and retentions will continue. And as we see the adoption, then we will be able to draw out a meaningful business plan," said Lalitha Nataraj, chief executive officer of NPCI Bhim Services.

Launched on December 30, 2016, the BHIM app revolutionized digital transactions by offering a simple and fast way to make payments using the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). The app allows users to make direct bank payments to any bank account using their UPI ID and PIN. It also offers the convenience of scanning a QR code to transfer money, making it a versatile tool for seamless financial transactions.
