NPCI Strengthens RuPay Contactless Cards With Offline Payments Feature

The retail payments platform National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has strengthened the capabilities of Rupay Contactless with the new offline feature. The functionality allows reloadable wallets within Rupay card to carry out day to day transit payments.

In a press release today, NPCI said the feature is part of the transit payments system and has been enabled for retail payments on a pilot basis.

The new capabilities will go a long way in enhancing transaction experience for the Rupay cardholders. And with reloadable wallet feature, Rupay cardholders can keep money in their wallet for quicker and smooth transaction processing even at the POS kiosks where there is poor connectivity.

The RuPay NCMC (National Common Mobility Card) offline wallet can be put to make ticket payments in transit such as metros, bus tickets, cab fares etc. that enables automatic quick cashless payments thus lowering the waiting time, traffic congestion as well as the transit time.
